For more than 20 years, Richard S. Land has concentrated on estate planning and administration and related Federal and state tax issues.

Mr. Land has advised clients on all aspects of estate planning from will drafting to family limited partnerships and from business succession planning to charitable giving. In addition, he represents many tax-exempt entities, from large trade associations to local charitable organizations.

Mr. Land is a frequent lecturer on trust and estate topics and has designed a unique computer document assembly system for estate planning.

Mr. Land is a member of the Real Property and Probate Section of the American Bar Association, and the Estates and Probate Sections of the Connecticut and New York State Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Committee on Legal Problems of the Elderly of the Connecticut Bar Association Estates and Probate Section.

Current Practice:

Bruce C. Schmidt is an Estates and Trusts partner in the Winsted law firm of Howd, Lavieri & Finch, LLP, where he has practiced law for twenty years. A former bank trust officer, his practice is concentrated in the areas of estate planning and settlement, trust administration and asset preservation. His approach consists of tax effective planning and disposition of decedent's estates. This involves a review of assets owned, the family tree, and dispositive wishes of the client.

Mr. Schmidt's primary focus in the estate plan is on the creation of tax favorable trusts to achieve usage of both exemptions, the exclusion of life insurance and optimal tax savings available with Qualified Personal Residence Trusts. With this approach there is often elimination of the federal estate tax in the estate. In order to achieve the needs of his clients, Mr. Schmidt is willing to travel to meet with clients.

He is a member of the American Bar Association (Real Property and Probate Section and Pre-death Planning Committee and Asset Protection Planning Committee). In addition to the Florida and Connecticut Bar Associations (formerly the Executive Committee of the Estates and Probate Section, Legislative Revision Committee and Specialization Certification Committee). He is admitted to practice before the Federal Court (Connecticut District) and Tax Courts of the United States and the courts of the States of Connecticut and Florida.

Mr. Schmidt is a frequent speaker at and host of seminars pertaining to estate planning, financial planning and taxation.
