Stephen T. O'Neill was born in New York City in 1944. He received his B.A. from Fairfield University in 1966 and his Doctor of Laws from Fordham University School of Law in 1974.

Since his admission to the New York Bar in 1975 Steve's law practice has concentrated on estate planning and retirement planning*. From 1975 to 1976 he was associated with the Wall Street law firm of Emmet, Marvin & Martin.

He was formerly a principal and Chairman of the Estate Planning Department and Employee Benefits Department of the Providence law firms of Adler, Pollock & Sheehan Incorporated (1976-84) and Tillinghast Collins & Graham (1984-89). After serving as Vice President and General Counsel to a local manufacturing firm from 1989 to 1990, he established his own law practice in Providence in 1990. His offices (and free onsite parking) are located in the landmark Samuel Staples, Jr. House at the corner of Benefit and Olney Streets at University Heights.

Steve has been a frequent lecturer before professional groups and public and private audiences at local, regional and national seminars on the subjects of estate planning and retirement distribution planning. He has spoken on these subjects on behalf of the American Bar Association, the National
Network of Estate Planning Attorneys, the National Business Institute, the Rhode Island Bar Association, the Rhode Island Society of CPAs, the Rhode Island CLU Society, and the Bristol County, Massachusetts Estate Planning Council.

Steve is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association (Probate and Trust Committee), the Massachusetts Bar Association (Probate Law Section) the American Bar Association (Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section), the Rhode Island Estate Planning Council and the National Network of Estate Planning Attorneys. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Steve resides in Bristol, Rhode Island with his wife Ellie. He has three grown children, Erin, Brendan and Caitlin. Steve is an avid cyclist, surfer, skiier, hiker, triathlete and reader.
